RENO " Nevada regents meeting in Reno will discuss how to cut $193 million from its current operating budget to meet a mandate by Gov. Jim Gibbons to reduce spending.

Some options include increasing student fees, deferring faculty merit raises and possible layoffs or furloughs.

Officials say while those are worst-case scenarios, any alternative is ripe for discussion.

On Friday, the board will hear a report on raising the admission requirement in 2006 for students at universities in Reno and Las Vegas.

The report's findings are of particular interest because the admission requirement is set to increase again this fall.
