Carson City fire fighters and hazmat crews responded to the Nevada State Prison this morning on a report of a mercury spill in the infirmary.

Fire Chief Ståcey Giomi said the spill of mercury from an older-model thermometer which broke was contained to the infirmary.

Prison spokesman Greg Smith deemed the spill "very minor" and said no one is permanently housed in the infirmary.
