LAS VEGAS " A Las Vegas taxi ride is going to cost 45 cents more per mile starting July 6.

The Nevada Taxicab Authority unanimously approved a new rate structure Monday including a permanent 20 cents per mile rate increase, plus a temporary 25 cents per mile fuel surcharge.

The moves mean an average four-mile trip that cost $12.85 in May will cost $14.65.

Officials say the fuel surcharge can be eliminated if the average cost of a gallon of gasoline drops below $4 a gallon for 20 consecutive days.

It can be raised if the cost of gasoline goes above $5 a gallon for five consecutive da

Either way, the surcharge is subject to authority review in January.
