George Timothy Bennett

George Timothy Bennett was born in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Ala., the only child of Lewis and Corbie Bush Bennett. His early life was spent in Green Pond on the farm of his grandparents. The family moved to Ada, Texas during his teen years.

George began his college education at Alabama Polytechnic Institute in Auburn in Chemical Engineering. He entered the Air Force in 1942 serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, China and India, where he worked in Radio Maintenance and installation.

George returned to California after the war completing a Bachelors of Science degree in Pharmacy at the University of Southern California.

George's love of winter sports skiing downhill and cross-country brought him to Reno. He worked for Frank Titus at Village Drug. George and Juanita Clay "J" married in 1965 making Carson City their home. Their family included a daughter Charlene Clay Hout of Vancouver, Wash. and son Don Clay of Burbank, Calif., three grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. "J" passed away in 1982. Don Clay died in 2007 leaving a wife Marney Clay of Burbank.

George worked as a staff pharmacist at Osco Drug, and as an inspector for the State Board of Pharmacy from 1970-1980. He served as Executive Secretary of the State Board from 1974-1980, where he worked closely with the Attorney General's office preparing cases for hearings. In 1980 George worked as a Consultant Pharmacist for the State Division of Heath and for various Retail Pharmacies.

George married Carol Krupp on November 13, 1988 entering a special loving family relationship with, and sons Gary and Larry and four grandchildren.

After retirement George became interested in writing. He joined the Memoir Class of 2001 at Western Nevada Community College taught by Sally Mooney. George delighted all with his humor and style particularly his humorous animal stories. He shared these stories with many elementary children. The Memoir class under the leadership of Ursula Carlson and the mentoring of Sally Mooney has become a close-knit family.

George was a regular at the Senior Center playing a good game of table tennis. He will be missed by his many friends.

George passed away peacefully at Evergreen Rehabilitation Center on June 15, 2008 in the company of his dear friend Greta Weyant.

Autumn Funerals and Cremations is in charge of his final arrangements.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be 2 p.m., Saturday at the United Methodist Church located at the North West corner of Division at Musser in Carson City. A reception will follow services.
