Authorities say a 26-year-old registered sex offender has been charged with arson in a weekend fire at the state Supreme Court building.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety says Christopher Lee Hollis told investigators he was upset about changes in the sex offender tier system due to take effect next week.

Hollis allegedly said he wanted to blow up the Supreme Court and hurt people in the government.

He also allegedly said he wanted to stage an event to "send a message" during the special legislative session scheduled to start Friday in Carson City.

The Sunday night fire caused minor damage, and police say an anti-government slogan was found scrawled in black spray paint nearby.

The DPS said Hollis was being held on $25,000 bail on a fourth-degree arson charge at the Carson City jail.
