FERNLEY - John Mariotti, owner of Universal TaeKwon-Do, recently purchased Beyond Fitness from previous owner, Keith Barnhardt, who is assisting with the transition.
Major renovations have taken place at the location at 95 West Main St. in Fernley. The new owner and his staff have expanded classes and services to enhance those already offered by the gym.
Judith Keeney, an assistant at the business said, "There has been a lot of remodeling and repainting. Besides the equipment for workouts, tanning is still available."
Mariotti moved his martial arts studio into the facility Feb. 18 to merge the two fitness businesses. Besides the programs operating at the former TaeKwon-Do site previously in the Scolari's Shopping Center, more classes including Yoga, low impact aerobics, boxing, Fit over 50, Kids Bright gymnastics for 2 to 4 year olds, cheerleading and Mommy and Me groups have been introduced.
Adam Richards, head instructor of TaeKwan-Do and a student for nine years said, "The name will change to Power In Flow now that we've combined the martial arts and the gym."
"The workout equipment will remain," Richards added.
The facilities are open throughout the transition with a "Signup Special" for basic gym membership that will continue for a short time.
"We're open for new members," said Richards. "On the martial arts side, we're starting a Brazilian Jiujitsu class."
The updated facility will have something for everybody who wants to work out or improve his or her body through other methods with certified personal trainers and instructors on duty
Hours for the variety of classes and workouts are: Monday through Friday, 4 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call the gym at 575-7930 about specific times for classes or for more information.
A Grand Opening is planned for March 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. when there will be demonstrations and refreshments and, according to Mariotti, "We'll have a ribbon kicking."
