Nothing went right for the Carson High softball team in its season-opening 9-0 loss to Fallon on Thursday in the Preseason Tournament of Champions near Sacramento.

Fallon's Kate Pinder pitched a five-hit shutout, striking out seven and walking none in the game that was called after six innings due to the time limit. Carson coach Scott Vickrey said Pinder had an effective rise ball.

"It's not the way I wanted to start," Vickrey said. "It's just weird. I don't know how to explain it."

Carson left eight baserunners in the game. "We had some opportunities we just didn't capitalize on," Vickrey said.

Nikki Keller went the distance for Carson, striking out seven and walking two. Keller allowed one run through four innings. But Fallon scored three runs in the fifth and five in the sixth.

Abby Rankl had two hits and Christa Casci, Cassie Vondrak and Elizabeth Cagle all added a hit for Carson. Hannah Shaw added a stolen base for the Senators, who continue play in the tournament today.
