William "Bill" Cross, 86 of Dayton, passed away on March 3, 2008 in Carson City. Bill was born on April 5, 1921 in Mitchelstown, Ireland to James and Bridget Cross. He grew up in Newmarket, Ireland with two sisters and four brothers.
Shortly after he left school in Ireland, Bill spent a few years in England training as a car mechanic, and then returned to Ireland where he met his wife, Mary (Hegarty). They were married in Cork City, Ireland in 1953 and had their first son. Bill and Mary emigrated to Canada in 1958 where they had their daughter. They then emigrated again to Los Angeles in 1962 where they had their second son. Bill owned a foreign car repair shop in Culver City, Calif. until his retirement when he moved to Dayton. Golf was Bill's passion for 60 years He taught all his children to play golf when they were young, and he played 18 holes consistently until his passing.
Bill is survived by Mary Cross of Dayton, his sons Kevin Cross of Dayton, Bill Cross of Carson City and daughter Linda Cross of Dayton, grandsons Ryan Cross of Reno, Sean Cross of Dayton, daughter-in-law Karen Cross of Dayton and son-in law John Mc Fadden of Dayton, brothers Jim Cross and Tom Cross in Ireland and Phillip Cross of England.
He was preceded in death by his father James Cross, mother Bridget Cross, sisters Elizabeth Keough and Mary Hanson, brother Dick Cross.
Private services were held by the family. A celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
