Babbitt runner-up in McDonald's competition

Luke Babbitt, a 6-foot-8 forward from Galena High School, placed second in the 3-point shooting contest on Monday as part of the McDonald's All-American game festivities in Milwaukee, Wisc.
Babbitt, who has signed with the University of Nevada, finished behind point guard Larry Drew, who is headed for North Carolina. According to recruiting Web site www.rivals.com, Babbitt made 14 3-pointers in the final round, while Drew knocked down 17. In the opening round, Babbitt led all shooters with 19 to advance to the final.
The McDonald's All-American game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Babbitt will represent the West squad.
ESPN will televise the annual all-star game that features the nation's top senior basketball players.
