LOS ANGELES " An Australia-bound jetliner carrying hundreds of passengers blew four tires while aborting takeoff late Monday night and got stranded on the runway at Los Angeles International Airport.

None of the 232 passengers or crew on Qantas flight 12 was hurt in the incident late Monday, LAX spokeswoman Treva Miller said.

Flight operations at the airport were not affected.

Miller said the pilot aborted takeoff after a warning light came on as he took the Boeing 747-400 down the runway at 11:05 p.m. The tires blew when the pilot jammed on the brakes, she said, and the plane came to rest on an adjacent runway.

Emergency personnel got everyone off the jet without incident.

The passengers were taken to area hotels and the flight was rescheduled to depart for Sydney at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Qantas spokeswoman Agnes Huff said. Crews worked overnight on the plane, Huff said, and it will be used for the flight this afternoon.
