Oodles of Noodles cooks sought
The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce is calling for contestants to join the seventh annual Oodles of Noodles Cook-off on May 10.
The entry fee is $50 until April 30, $65 after that date. This event is a one-day event that combines good food and vendor and business booths.
The event will be held in Old Town Dayton on Logan Way and Pike Street. Set up on Friday afternoon is recommended. Booths will open at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning. For information and application visit www.daytonnvchamber.org or call 246-7909.
Vendors sought for Dayton Valley Days
The 20th annual Dayton Valley Days will be Sept. 20-21 and will honor the buildings of yesterday with the theme, "Old Places, New Faces."
The Dayton Station, the historical railroad depot will be included, along with the other buildings from the past used in our community.
The event includes more than 140 street fair vendors, a Main Street parade, a pancake breakfast, kids games, adult game contest, classic cars, silent auctions, a pet parade, art show and silent auction.
Money raised go to the continued restoration of historic old town Dayton and aiding organizations that provide Christmas gifts to those in need, provide prevention and intervention, scholarships and provide support to other needs of the community.

Smith Valley artist's work on display
Giclee prints done by Laurie Nelson of Smith Valley will be displayed at the Lyon County Dayton Gallery through May 2.
The Dayton Gallery is in the Lyon County Services Office located at Occidental Square in Building No. 2, Suite 201, on Highway 50 in Dayton. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Canadian singer appears in Fallon
The Churchill Arts Council will present a performance by the Canadian Grammy-nominated Jazz vocalist Sophie Milman at the Oats Park Art Center, 151 E. Park St., Fallon at 8 p.m. April 12. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and there will be a no-host bar. Tickets are $17 for CAC members, $20 for nonmembers and $10 for children/students at (775) 423-1440.
Sophie Milman is a 25-year old, Russian-born, Canadian jazz sensation, whose debut release was included in Billboard's Top 15.

The Fernley Farmers Market is gearing up for the 2008 season and is looking for crafters, artisans, bakers, farmers and nonprofit organizations to join the market. Tea party, fashion show planned
Tickets are now on sale for the fourth Annual Mom and Me Tea Party, Luncheon & Fashion Show at 11:30 a.m. April 5 at the Fernley Community Center. This year's theme is a Japanese tea ceremony.
Tickets can be purchased at Casa del Sol and at Mirage Gifts. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12. Checks can be made payable to the Fernley Improvement Club.
Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring one nonperishable food item for Fernley's Food Bank. People are also encouraged to bring their own favorite tea cup and saucer and the best one wins a prize.

Community thrift store to open
The Fernley Community Coalition will open Community Thrift Store at 878 Highway 95A at the Sierra Vista Mall on Tuesday and will hold its grand opening from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. April 5.
The FCC is a nonprofit organization that supports youth and community projects. Funds also go to the Long Term Recovery Committee to assist flood victims.
Flood victims can get need clothing, furniture, household items at no cost with a voucher from the Long Term Recovery Committee.
The Community Thrift Store will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday; and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays.
East Valley to hold art expo
Jewelry, paintings, wood turning and other types of art will be displayed at the East Valley Elementary School Art Expo Gala from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. April 5.
The Expo will include jewelry making, wood turning, oils, watercolors, colored pencils and acrylics. Some artists will sell their creations.
There will also be entertainment from Teddy Bear Dancers, Jenny's Dance Studio dancers, belly dancer Lisa Fisher and Starz Gymnastics, and Natalie McHenry and Sue Bridie and their students will play the piano.
Silver Springs
Tax assistance for seniors available
The American Association of Retired Persons will be offering tax services at the Silver Springs Senior Center each Tuesday and Wednesday.
All low- and middle-income seniors and families are welcome to attend.

Groundbreaking Sunday at station
The Central Lyon County Fire Protection District will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Silver Springs fire station at 4030 Deodar St. at 11 a.m. Sunday. The new station is projected to be completed in November.
Fly-in looking for vendors
The 13th Annual Lyon County Fly-In will be held May 17-18 at the Lyon County Regional Airport in Silver Springs with the theme, "Kids in Aviation."
Vendors should apply for a booth as soon as possible. Booth space is $50 for craft booths and $65 for commercial. The cost for nonprofit groups (501c3) is $20.
Space is available 10 foot-by-10-foot booths. Applications can be obtained at www.lyoncountyflyin.com, or by calling 887-1294.
Pilots from throughout the region and nearby sates fly in for the day to showcase their aircraft, which includes antique, military, and private.
The event also includes static and fly-bys from Naval Air Station Fallon Search and Rescue.
One of the big draws to the event is the "Young Eagles" program, which allows youths ages 8-17 years old to experience flying with an experienced pilot.
Chamber joins Meals on Wheels
The Silver Springs Chamber of Commerce has joined the March for Meals campaign to raise money for the Silver Springs Senior Center's Meals on Wheels Program.
On Saturday and Sunday a flea market will be held each day at the Silver Springs Senior Center from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Vendors are welcome to participate.

Virginia City
Center to hold spaghetti fundraiser
The Storey County Senior Center will hold its annual Spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the center, E and Mill streets, Virginia City.
Cost is $10 for adults, which includes one glass of wine; $5 for children 12 and under, which includes a soft drink. Live music will be performed during dinner. Call 847-0957 for more information.
Hippie weekend next weekend
Virginia City will celebrate its 1960s past with a parade, a film and a performance by psychedelic folk artist Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks.
The event will begin with the movie 'The Life and Times of the Red Dog Saloon,' by Mary Works at 7:30 p.m. April 4 at Piper's Opera House. Cost is $6 and funds will go to Piper's Opera House restoration.
The Hippie Days Again Peace Parade will be at noon April 5 at the Fourth Ward School, and all hippies past and present are invited to join.
Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks will perform at 7:30 p.m. at Piper's Opera House. Hicks performs genres from proto-psychedelia to western swing and jazz; from Tin Pan Alley to country blues. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
Chili Cookoff seeking cooks
Virginia City's International Chili Cookoff, an International Chili Society regional contest, is looking for chili cooks.
Cooks will compete for cash prizes for their red chili, green chili and salsa. There is also a people's choice competition.
The event will be held May 3 at the Bucket of Blood parking lot on C and Union streets in Virginia City.

Broadway Blast at dance company
The musical revue "Broadway Blast" will be presented by the Through A Child's Eyes Foundation and Reno Dance Company at 8 p.m. April 5 and 1 p.m. April 6 at the Jeanne Dini Cultural Center, 120 N. California Street, Yerington.
This production includes 30 singers and dancers performing "42nd Street," "Annie Get Your Gun," "Damn Yankees," "Kiss Me Kate," "Dream Girls," "Chicago," "West Side Story," "Cats" and "A Chorus Line," among others.
Saturday's events start with an outreach performance for members of the local Boys and Girls Clubs. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for youth and seniors.
NRA friends to hold fundraiser, auction
The Mason Valley Friends of the NRA will hold its second annual fundraiser and auction at the Casino West Convention Center, 11 N. Main St., in Yerington, at 6 p.m. April 5.
Proceeds benefit The NRA Foundation, charitable organization, which promotes youth firearms safety and education, hunter training, shooting range development, marksmanship training, Second Amendment research and education, and conservation research.
