PAHRUMP " A Nye County sheriff's deputy remained jailed Thursday on felony charges that he sexually assaulted a female jail inmate in his patrol vehicle, authorities said.

Deputy Sheriff Daryal Taylor, 45, of Pahrump, was being held on $102,000 bail at a Nye County lockup in Beatty pending a Justice Court appearance on charges of sexual assault, kidnapping and oppression under color of office, Sheriff Tony DeMeo said.

Taylor was suspended with pay following his arrest Wednesday, pending the results of criminal and internal investigations, DeMeo said. He has worked as a patrol deputy in the 102-officer department for almost five years.

DeMeo said investigators seized Taylor's patrol car and began an investigation after the woman told a jail deputy that Taylor assaulted her while driving her back to jail in Pahrump Tuesday night from a scheduled medical appointment.

"It was on the way back that we allege the assault took place," DeMeo said.

The woman's age and identity were not made public.
