Shirk files for mayor

Realtor Jim Shirk is the third candidate to file for mayor of Carson City today.

Shirk, who has said he will be "the voice" for people in the city, has said the new mayor needs to focus on what residents want as well as environmental issues, such as considering banning plastic bags.

Podiatrist Sean Leahmann and Bob Crowell, a member of the school board also filed for the office today.

Mayor Marv Teixeira has said he will not seek a fourth term.

Seats for two supervisors and three school board members are also up this year.

Candidates can file now through May 16 at the elections department of the clerk-recorder's office.
