Bowman, Kort lead Nevada to win

Shawn Kort hit a walk-off three-run home run, his second homer of the game, to give the University of Nevada baseball team a huge 13-12 win over Sacramento State on Sunday at Peccole Park.

Dayton's Matt Bowman also went 4-for-4 with five runs and two RBI as the Wolf Pack (31-20, 18-10 in the Western Athletic Conference) moved to within one game of first place Fresno State in the race for the regular season title. The Bulldogs lost to San Jose State 2-1 on Sunday.

Nevada entered the bottom of the ninth against the Hornets trailing 12-9, but rallied for four runs for the win. Bowman was hit by a pitch to load the bases during the rally. Jason Rodriguez followed with an RBI sacrifice fly and then Kort hit the game-winner, his sixth homer of the season.

The Wolf Pack trailed 6-1 when Bowman doubled and scored on Kort's RBI single to make it 6-2 in the third. Nevada tied the score 6-6 when it scored four runs in the fourth. Bowman had an RBI double, Rodriguez hit an RBI single and Kort had a two-run homer during the rally.

Bowman scored in the sixth and then drove in one of two runs in the seventh as Nevada pulled to within 10-9.

Sammy Miller (3-1) earned the win as he pitched the final two innings giving up two runs on two hits.

Rodriguez was also 4-for-5 with four RBI, Kort went 3-for-5 with six RBI, Kevin Rodland had three hits and Jason Sadoian added two hits for Nevada.

Nevada closes out the regular season with a four-game conference series this weekend at San Jose State. Friday's game begins at 6 p.m.

SOFTBALL

The Wolf Pack received the No. 2 seed in the UCLA Regional as the field for the NCAA Softball Championships was announced on Sunday. Nevada will open play in the double elimination regional at 2:30 p.m. Friday against Purdue in a game that will be televised by ESPNU. No. 1 seed UCLA and Cal State Fullerton round out the region.
