Two men who attempted to rob a Carson City restaurant last month are still at large, an investigator said Wednesday.

Sheriff's Detective Daniel Gonzales said tips called in concerning the April 12 attempted robbery of El Torito Bakery and Butcher Shop have brought investigators no closer to identifying the two suspects.

According to police documents, the two men in their 20s entered the Winnie Lane market just before 6 p.m. and selected some beer from the cooler. The two then walked to the front counter as if to pay, but instead ordered the female clerk to give them money.

When the clerk said she didn't have the key to the register, one of the men walked around the counter, grabbed her by her neck and smashed her face into the register, telling her to open it.

The clerk screamed and the store owner came from the back carrying a knife. After warning the owner not to cause problems, the men left the store without any money. Their entrance and exit were captured on the store's surveillance video footage which can be viewed at nevadaappeal.com or youtube.com/nevadaappealvideo.

One of the robbers is described as about 6-feet-1-inch tall, with black hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans, black shoes and a black hat. The second man is described as 5-feet-9-inches tall with black hair. He was wearing a collared gray shirt with horizontal white stripes, tan shorts and white shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call Gonzales at 887-2020 ext. 41407. Secret Witness is also offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the men. Tipsters should call 322-4900.
