DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK, Calif. " Investigators are resuming their search in Death Valley National Park for possible bodies buried at the former home of Charles Manson.

The Park Service has closed off Barker Ranch to the public during the three-day dig, which began Tuesday.

Manson and his followers used Barker Ranch as a hideout following a 1969 Los Angeles killing spree that left seven dead, including actress Sharon Tate. For years, rumors have swirled about other possible Manson victims " hitchhikers and runaways who were never heard from again.

Investigators have identified at least three sites at the ranch that could be graves.

One of the first finds Tuesday was a .38 caliber shell casing, but law enforcement personnel on site determined quickly it was recent, as it seemed to be made of aluminum.
