FALLON " The Churchill County Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of partially buried human remains that was found Monday afternoon by an individual, said CCSO Sheriff Rich lngram Wednesday afternoon.
Ingram said location of the human remains is approximately 27 miles north of Fallon and about a half mile east of U.S 95.
The sheriff said deputies secured the site after the initial report and conducted a scene investigation which continued through Tuesday afternoon. Churchill County Search and Rescue assisted deputies with the search of a broad area surrounding the site.
There is no information at this time regarding gender, age, identity, causation of death or the length of time the body has been at the location.
Ingram said the condition of the body was in a condition that prevented officers from confirming its gender. He said there are many factors besides length of time that need to be examined to determine the body's decomposition.
He said the remains were delivered to the Washoe County Medical Examiners Office where pathologists will conduct further examinations and an autopsy.
The investigation is continuing. However, Ingram said, he has been told it may take about two weeks before any definitive information is obtained through the autopsy.
