Proficiency testing this week; band to perform

I hope that everyone had a safe and fun Halloween and that you remembered to "fall back" this weekend!

The CHS Student Council held a costume contest in Senator on Thursday, and it was a great turnout from teachers and staff. We also had a staff chili cook-off sponsored by Penny Reynolds and the culinary students.

Teachers brought in their own family recipes to share with staff and compete in a taste test.

A BIG thanks to Penny Reynolds, the culinary students, Jenn Tartan and the Student Council for always planning such fun events that help us show our Senator Pride.

Wednesday is the writing proficiency testing and a late start day for all students not involved in that. Students who are testing should arrive at the usual time, but those not involved will begin regular classes at 10:30 a.m. this day.

The CHS band program, led by Jarod Sorum, will give their fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson Community Center.

The band has been working hard to put this together and it should be an amazing performance. This concert is free, so regardless of what kind of instrumental music you like best, it's a great way to spend an evening enjoying the sounds of the Concert Band, the Jazz Band and the Wind Ensemble. It's a great way to support our band program at CHS.

Staff, students, and administration recently created a committee to nominate and select teachers for the CHS "Teacher of the Month" award.

While there were many outstanding teachers nominated for inclusion, the committee selected the following teacher for "New Teachers of the Month," meaning that they are teachers who have taught at the high school five years or less: Lupe Schofield (September), Jackie Spotts (October), and Sarah Lobsinger (November).

Then they selected the following teachers for the "Veteran Teacher of the Month," meaning teachers that have taught more than five years at CHS: Adam Whatley (September), Jennifer Minfie (October) and Jason Macy (November).

Each winner received a $25 gift certificate donated from Applebee's in Carson. We are so proud of the work that these and many others do at CHS! Congratulations!

The Carson High School chapter of the National Honor Society led by Advisor Anna Province will hold its fall induction ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Students selected for this honor have high grade-point averages and participate in community service projects, such as blood drives and tutoring programs.

A reminder that all Winter Sports packets are due to the Athletic office on Friday.

The varsity football team will take on the Douglas High School Tigers at 7 p.m. Friday at Douglas. This will be a great game and one that we hope all you Senators will come and support!
