Howard E. Browne, 79 passed away on Nov. 2, 2008. He died peacefully at the Evergreen Care Center in Carson City.
Howard was born on April 22, 1929 in Winnemucca, Nevada. He spent his childhood years in Austin, Nev. He moved to Reno and graduated from Reno High School, University of Nevada and went to Hastings Law School in San Francisco. He joined the military in which he was a 2nd Lt. He worked for the United States Post Office in Reno from which he retired. After retirement he made his home in Carson City.
His father Howard E. Browne, Sr. was an attorney in Reno. His grandfather Charles A. Browne was the first police officer shot in the line of duty in 1907. His grandfather Carlton Haviland was the first Mayor of Winnemucca.
Howard is survived by a daughter Nancy Browne Dickinson, and sister Bonnie Browne Allec of Carson City, nephews and nieces Kevin Allec of Placerville, Calif., Melanie Martin of St. George, Utah, Dana, Marcella, Joe, Jerry and Tony Allec all of Carson City. Also survived by 21 great nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Howard E. Browne, Sr. and Vera Haviland Browne.
The family extends an invitation to all those who wish to attend the funeral services which will be 1 p.m., Monday at FitzHenry's Funeral Home, 3945 Fairview Drive, Carson City. Viewing will take place prior to the service. Howard will be buried at Masonic Memorial Gardens in Reno with Military Honors.
