District 2 and 3 judges hold seats

Two district judge incumbents were re-elected Tuesday night.

Judge David Huff defeated Jack Kennedy for the District 3 Department I seat by a 56 percent to 44 percent margin. Department 2 incumbent Leon Aberasturi received several thousand more votes than John Schleglmilch for a 59 percent to 41 percent win.

Dayton justice of the peace William Rogers defeated Churchill County deputy district attorney Thomas Stockard III by 53 percent of the vote to 47 percent.

Residents wanting dog park to meet

Dayton residents interested in having a dog park in Dayton or Mark Twain will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Community Room of the Greater Nevada Credit Union, 555 Highway 50 East, Dayton.

This is the first meeting to discuss a dog park for the Dayton Valley and Mark Twain areas. A representative from the Lyon County Parks will be present. Volunteers are needed to handle petition drive. Call 246-3064.

Christmas tree permits available

The Bureau of Land Management's Carson City office is offering Christmas tree cutting permits to harvest pinion pine trees from a specific area of the range.

These are appropriate for resale as Christmas trees.

Businesses as well as nonprofit groups that need trees for fundraising may cut trees to sell in Christmas tree lots.

Trees are available for $5 each with no limit to the number that can be cut. Permits are available at the BLM's District Office in Carson City, 5665 Morgan Mill Road, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Fridays.

The area for cutting trees is 12 miles south of Dayton and 20 miles east of Carson City. Maps will be provided.

'Odd Couple' to be performed

The Gold Hill Theater Troupe will perform the "Odd Couple" at 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Nov. 12 at the Gold Hill Hotel, 1540 Main St.

Advisory Board elections Monday

Three incumbent Silver Springs Advisory Board members and four political newcomers are vying for three board seats.

The SSAB will hold elections at the Monday meeting at 7 p.m. at Hillyard Hall.

Candidates include, incumbents, Pat Geurts, Andy Quinn and Lee Jackson; and residents Leandra Carr, Mark Craig, Scott Keller and Gordon Young. The SSAB bylaws stipulate the only registered voters in Silver Springs may vote in the SSAB election

Lounge Lizards back at Piper's on Nov. 8

The Austin Lounge Lizards will perform at Piper's Opera House on Saturday.

The offbeat bluegrass band has performed several times at the opera house in recent years; they perform music that includes, guitar, bass, drums, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, dobro and steel guitar and a lot of outrageous humor. They like to poke fun at politics, love, music and the culture in general. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. but the bar at Piper's will be open a half hour before. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
