Peggy Santoro has been named interim managing editor of the Nevada Appeal.

A longtime Northern Nevada journalist, Santoro previously worked at the Reno Gazette-Journal in several editorial management positions. Most recently she was senior editor over five community newspapers owned by the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Niki Gladys, publisher of the Nevada Appeal, made the announcement late last week.

"I am confident that Peggy's experience and commitment to journalism will be an excellent addition to the Nevada Appeal news team." Gladys said.

Santoro replaces Barry Ginter, who has left the company. Ginter had been editor of the Nevada Appeal since 2006.

Gladys said, "Barry has been a fine representative for the Nevada Appeal in the Carson City community and I appreciate his efforts to improve the paper. We wish him well in his future endeavors."

The Nevada Appeal is the largest newspaper in the Sierra Nevada Media Group, consisting of six newspapers and associated Web sites in Truckee, Tahoe City, South Lake Tahoe, Incline Village, Gardnerville, Carson City and Fallon. All are operated in their respective communities and printed at the Appeal's production plant at 580 Mallory Way in Carson City.

Sierra Nevada Media, part of Reno-based Swift Communications, also operates Tahoe.com and Reno.com.
