Riders can take free bus trips from Carson City to South Lake Tahoe next week as part of the city's busy new service.
The free rides of Route 21X - Spooner Express will run Sunday through Nov. 29 under an agreement between Carson City's bus service, Jump Around Carson (JAC), and the South Lake Area Transit Authority's bus service, BlueGO.
Rides run throughout the week eight times a day every hour between 6:35 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. from the city's transfer point on North Plaza Street between Washington and Robinson streets. It then goes about 40 miles to the South Lake Tahoe's Stateline Transit Center in Heavenly Village.
The BlueGO buses will make stops in Carson City along the way at bus stops at Stewart Street near the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, Casino Fandango on Curry Street, Fuji Park/Costco on Old Clear Creek Road and the park and ride lot on Highway 50 West near Highway 395.
The bus will make stops outside of Carson City at the Spooner Summit park and ride, the Zephyr Cove Resort on Highway 50, the Safeway at the Roundhill Hill Shopping Center, the Kingsbury transit center, the Lakeside Inn & Casino, the Horizon Casino Resort, Harveys Lake Tahoe bus center and Stateline transit center.
One-way rides will be $4 for people ages 5 to 59 and $1 for people over age 60 after Nov. 29.
