A while back, I asked Lyon County folks to please send me items they would like to see in this space, in lieu of Virginia City items.

I especially was hoping parents and teachers would send school-related items, as I have no children and cannot be aware by any other way the doin's of the young 'uns in Lyon County.

The Lord said "Ask and ye shall receive" and I am receivin', especially from Silver Stage Middle School.

From Pam Martinez, Silver Stage principal's secretary, we find out that Silver Stage Middle School has completed the writing of its by-laws for the National Junior Honor Society, and the Faculty Council is currently in the process of ratifying these by-laws.

The five criteria for induction into the NJHS are scholarship, leadership, service and citizenship, and character, as well as attendance at SSMS for at least one semester. Students in grades seven and eight, as well as sixth graders who have completed one semester are eligible for membership as long as they have not received any grades lower than a B. The standards for selection into NJHS are set by the national office.

Students who meet the grade requirements will be notified of their eligibility to complete the application process to be considered for induction into the Coyote chapter of NJHS at Silver Stage which will take place at the end of first semester. NJHS is committed to actively involving its members in community service and projects to promote leadership.

Martinez also sent in the story of SSMS Coyote, Bryce Hart and his mom, Kim, competed in a egg-eating contest during the October Coyote Cafe.

They where the only 2 competitors in this egg-stravaganza, which saw mom defeating Bryce.

Once a month SSMS hosts a Coyote Cafe, where parents or guardians are invited to come dine with their child in then SSMS cafeteria. The next Coyote Cafe will take place today. Hold the eggs.

Silver Stage Middle School staff and students would like to thank the Teen Truth program and presenter David Fernandez for a valuable presentation.

The students learned about the affects of drug and alcohol through a film created by students about Fernandez' life story. The Teen Truth presentations are always a school favorite.

Also at Silver Stage Middle School, the following students were recognized for outstanding leadership, academic excellence, and/or citizenship recently at SSMS. They were each nominated by one of their teachers: David Joyce, Joey Kellogg, Joseph Franco, Kayla Mason, Sean Griffin, Lee Polson, Destiny Boyd, Mikayla Moss, Anthony Downey, Virginia Ramm, Nikki Silva, Jeremy Hayes, James Adcock, Breezy Church, Genevieve Cline, Omar Ziadeh, Eirryn Root, Brandie Spencer, Donnie Smith, Steven Hoffman.

Kadee Mason, Dayton Elementary School booster president also sent in an item.

The Dayton Elementary School Boosters will host their first Holiday Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 6 in the multipurpose room of the school at 285 Old Dayton Valley Road, Dayton.

She said the bazaar will be a one-stop holiday shopping experience where visitors can enjoy homemade soups, pies, and desserts, while shopping with more than 30 local vendors, including Handmade Crafts, Wood Working, Avon, Pampered Chef, Once Upon A Portrait, Party Lite, Jewels By Park Lane, Send Out Cards, XoCai, Dayton Valley Vitamins, Massage by Paula, Jockey to Jockey, Stacy's Choice of Beauty, Envy Hair & Nail Salon.

See, not a Virginia City item here. I have a new blog, called the Palace Blog, which will tell of tales from the Comstock, the land of the Silver Kings, told from the Palace restaurant on occasional mornings. The Palace is the only C Street restaurant with Internet availability, hence the blog name. Hope you check it out on www.nevadaappeal.com.
