Three plead guilty in Indian Hills burglaries

Three men who shared a house in Sunridge pleaded guilty Monday to burglary and possessing stolen property in connection with a rash of break-ins in their neighborhood and Indian Hills.

Ricky Barrios, 19, and Didier Moguel, 23, each face up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine after pleading guilty to burglary.

Zeth Moguel, 18, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit the crime of possession of stolen property, a gross misdemeanor, and faces up to one year in Douglas County Jail and a $2,000 fine.

The three men are eligible for probation.

Barrios and Didier Moguel admitted breaking into a residence on Coloma in Indian Hills in September. Items from that incident were sold to a Carson City pawnshop, Didier Moguel told District Judge Michael Gibbons.

"I guess I would have to say it was someone else's idea," Moguel said. "I really wasn't thinking right."

The two also broke into a house next door to their Sunburst residence. Zeth Moguel admitted helping pass stolen property over the fence to their house.

Barrios said he stole because he needed money for food.

Didier Moguel claimed he didn't know the name of the person who was the mastermind for the burglaries.

"I really don't know who it was," he said. "I really don't know many people from around here and in Reno and Carson."

Gibbons set sentencing for Jan. 5 and ordered the three to remain in custody.

The Moguels, who are brothers, have Immigration and Customs Enforcement holds.

They also agreed to pay restitution.

The stolen items included several weapons, electronics, video games and jewelry.

When the suspects were arrested Oct. 28, investigators recovered 22 items worth $6,000 at their Sunburst residence in Sunridge.

Authorities believe they committed the break-ins between Sept. 22 and Oct. 16.

Lawyer Tod Young, representing Didier Moguel, said his client wanted to clear up a misconception that he provided a written statement implicating someone else in the burglaries.

"There is not a statement," Young said. "He didn't implicate anyone outside the three here today."
