Scolari's grocery store in Carson City has been renamed and re-branded as Sak 'n Save by its Sparks-based parent company.
The store, 2100 Highway 50 East, opened today as Sak 'n Save and will offer cheaper and more "ethnically diverse" food, said John Stampfi, a representative with parent company Scolari's Food & Drug.
Changing to a box store will help the company compete in Carson City, he said, and "it will be a better fit for us."
There are two Sak 'n Save stores in Reno as well.
The company is the largest privately-owned grocery store chain in Northern Nevada with 13 stores, according to its Web site, and also operates 4 stores in the central coast area of California.
