Washoe Valley smoke attributed to controlled burn

Smoke in Washoe Valley this evening is likely from a controlled burn earlier in the day, according to the Carson City Emergency Dispatch Center.

There are currently no active fires in the Sierra Front.

The Sierra Front is comprised of 11.5 million acres in central and western Nevada and eastern California. Geographically, Sierra Front's covera state and federal lands from Doyle Ca. south to Mono Lake, Ca. and from the eastern shores of Lake Tahoe, NV. east to Austin and Tonopah, NV.

There six large fires burning in Oregon and California currently combined, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.

Reports of a fire near Strawberry Peak by Mt. Whitney or Strawberry, Nev. in White Pine County, could not be confirmed.
