CHS foursome wins co-ed event

The Carson High boys and girls cross country teams continued to make strides at the South Tahoe Relays on Friday.

Carson decided to focus on the co-ed event in the two mile-race and Richard Shroy, Nick Schlager, Yvonne Hollett and Jenny Mital came away as champions. Also for Carson, Amanda Gordon, Erica Sosa, Brent Moyle and Logan Philippi took third in the co-ed event.

In the open boys race, Galena took first while Reno High was second. In the open girls race, South Tahoe was first and Galena was second.

Carson had impressive efforts in the open races as Laura Sosa took second and Chelsea Gordon was fourth in the open girls race. Freshman Miguel Hernandez was seventh in the open boys race and Miguel Hernandez also had a strong effort in the open boys event.

"The team actually showed a lot of strenght and growth and improvement in a lot of areas," Carson coach Pete Sinnott said. "Lots of individual improvement."

Next up for Carson is a Northern 4A meet at North Valleys on Wednesday that should show where it stands. Reno, who Sinnott considers as the top boys team, and South Tahoe, who Sinnott considers as the top girls team, will compete in Wednesday.
