Here is the announcement many have been waiting for: New lectures on historical Dayton and the Comstock start again on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the museum. All are welcome.

Without a doubt the Historical Society of Dayton Valley has the best group of volunteers in Nevada - maybe in the U.S. of A. Earlier in September we said we had a lot of projects going on and it was going to be hard on us all to get the work done. We have a limited amount of people for some pretty lofty projects. We find ourselves with the restoration of the Dayton Fire House and the Carson/Colorado Railroad Depot with no operating funds. So the Historical Society created a couple of fundraisers to raise some badly needed money.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, the weekend of Dayton Valley Days, our group offered parking for people attending the festivities. We all worked hard to prepare the lot at the Carson Colorado Depot to park cars. It was ideal as it was a short walking distance to the fun and food. The museum group showed up to help direct traffic and park cars. They worked both days out in the sun and the results were fantastic, a good start on earning some badly needed funds.

So many folks in the Dayton Area don't realize that the building on the north corner of Main Street and Highway 50E is the Carson/Colorado Railroad Depot in disguise as a house. Well, under all the façade is indeed the old Depot. After it's pointed out to folks, they recognize the shape of the depot hidden by all the additions.

Sept. 27 and 28, the Historical Society had a rummage sale. We had fun. We worked hard. We talked to a lot of people about the restoration of the only depot left in Nevada of the Carson/Colorado narrow gauge railroad. We're getting excited about the restoration. We need a lot of help with gaining volunteers to help in all phases of restoring the building. We won't turn down money either.

Part of our group had a bake sale and there was a lot of folks walking out of the area with a smile on their face - or was that powdered sugar?

By the time Sunday afternoon came to pass there were a lot of people dragging butt, just plain worn out, but happy at the results of the three days of hard work. Thank you, you wonderful volunteers. You are a credit to the organization and to your community.
