Chamber offers business forum

A business forum with Michael Skaggs, executive director of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development will be 8:30 a.m. Oct. 29 at the Greater Nevada Credit Union in Dayton.

The commission seeks to diversify the economy by expanding and attracting non-gaming businesses to the state.

This will be an informal presentation on the economic development activity level and the emphasis on renewable- alternative energy. Skaggs also will cover specific commission programs designed to help Nevada businesses enter the international market and sell to global customers and the procurement division efforts which link Nevada businesses to government customers.

Benefit golf tournament today

Community Roots will host a golf tournament today that benefits its youth programs. Both golfers and sponsors are needed.

The cost is $85 per golfer which includes golf, cart, range balls and dinner, along with a putting contest and games throughout the day.

The group's goal is to raise $15,000 through entries, tee sponsorships and silent auctions items. If a business would like to sponsor the tournament, they should contact Wendy Madson at (775) 250-7884.

Cathouse Afternoon Follies today

The Gold Hill Hotel presents "Cathouse Afternoon Follies" a musical comedy by Will and Sheree Rose of Silver City, at 7 p.m., today at the hotel, 1540 S. Main St., Gold Hill. Candidates to speak Monday

The Silver Springs Area Chamber of Commerce is holding a Candidates Night at 6 p.m. Monday at Hillyard Hall, next door to the Silver Springs Chamber of Commerce.

All candidates are invited to attend the evening and introduce themselves to the community.

58th Annual Founders Day next week

The Silver Springs Chamber of Commerce is celebrating Founder's Day with the theme "58 in 08, Food, Fun and Friends," from Thursday to Oct. 26.

The 58th Annual celebration includes a parade, children's activities, bounce house, live music, talent contest, horseshoe tournament and a pancake breakfast and more.

Volunteers are needed to assist with the parade, vendors, children's activities, and more. The downtown carnival kicks off on Thursday. On Oct. 25 a pancake breakfast will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Silver Springs Senior Center.

The parade will be held Oct. 25 on Fort Churchill Road and nonprofit groups, individuals, politicians and businesses are encouraged to submit an application. Following the parade the festivities continue at Penny Park.

Virginia City

Governor's ball set for Oct. 25

The annual Governor's Ball with a Victorian orchestra, period dancing and dining will be 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at Piper's Opera House, 12 North B St., Virginia City.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. A special wine train excursion will be offered prior to the ball.

Comstock offers Ghost Night' activities

Virginia City comes alive with spirits and more for the annual "Ghost Night" Halloween celebration on Oct. 31.

The 4th annual Goblin Parade, will begin at 5 p.m. at the Virginia City Jerky Company, 208 South C St., Virginia City. Lineup and registration will begin at 4 p.m. The parade will offer awards for Best Costume, Scariest Costume, and Most Original Costume, in adult and child categories. Entrance to the parade is free; donations are accepted.

There will be Safe Trick Or Treating on C Street beginning at dusk, with many stores, saloons and restaurants open to hand out candy.

The traditional "Haunted Hallways" tour of the historic Fourth Ward School will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults; $3 for kids ages 6-16.

The Silver Terrace Cemeteries will be open for the brave-hearted to wander through from 6 to 10 p.m. Bring a flashlight. Cost is $4 for adults; $2 for kids.

The Virginia & Truckee Railroad will have their annual "Haunted Train," at 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults; $4 for kids.

At the new Comstock Gold Mill across from the train depot is the "Haunted Mill on the Hill" with tours for 10 people at a time from 6 to 10 p.m. Cost is $4 for adults and $2 for kids; or $10 for families of four.

The Ramada Inn and Piper's Opera House are combining for a party on Halloween that will include the 7 p.m. Haunted Train Ride, and an 8 p.m. dance and costume contest at Piper's Opera House. Call the Ramada at 847-4484 for room and event package price. For adults only.

The annual Halloween party with costume contest at the Gold Hill Hotel will feature Red Rose and is free, with fine dining available. For adults only.
