Frances G. Petersen, 91, passed away Sept. 30, 2008 at Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center from complications of hip surgery. She had lived at Carson Valley Residential Care in Gardnerville for the past five years.
Mrs. Petersen was born Feb. 3, 1917 in Nera Vista, N.M. to Frank Goode and Pearl McCaleb Goode. Frances grew up in wheat farming country in Oklahoma. Kansas and Colorado. Frances moved to San Diego, Calif. during World War II and worked at Convair Aircraft Corporation where she was a riveter building B-24's until the war ended.
At the end of the war, Frances married Lester P. Petersen, June 24, 1945. She worked at a bakery in National City, Calif., and later as a checker at White-Front Stores in Chula Vista, Calif. Frances was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Chula Vista, Calif., and was very active in the church.
Frances is survived by her children Constance Peters, (Alan) of Hemet, Calif. and Jerome Petersen, (Donna) of Gardnerville, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
Her husband and four brothers Miron, Theodore, Grant and Marvin Goode preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the little Chapel of the Roses, Glen Abbey Memorial Park & Mortuary, 3838 Bonita Rd., Bonita, CA 91902; 619-798-4600. FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home cared for the local arrangements.
