"They gave us a lot of trouble the first 20 minutes of the game," Brigham said. "They passed the ball well."

Brigham, though, said his team was up to the task. "The boys showed a lot of heart," he said. "They wanted the win."

Wooster appeared to have scored on a header that went through the hands of Carson goalie Brandon Briggs, who likely stops that shot 99 out of a 100 times. But the Colts were called for offsides on the play.

Briggs though didn't pout over nearly giving Wooster the lead and while the Colts were still upset over the offsides call, Briggs sent a long kick to Adam Updegrove, who broke away for the game's only goal.

"That's the way soccer goes," Brigham said. "Wooster felt they should have been up 1-0 and five seconds later they're down 1-0.

"It was a great look on Brandon's part. He played a great ball to him (Updegrove) and Adam did the rest."

Carson also had to stave off Wooster's constant pressure with a makeshift defense. The Senators were already without two defensive starters in Nate Eng and and Jorge Guevara and its two other defensive starters, Brian Duran and Luis Aguilar were knocked out at different times in the game.

That left Carson with really only one defender in Nik Marsh, who has had extensive playing time. At one time Carson went with a defense of John Nuthall, who was moved back from up front, Christian Armas, Miguel Camacho and Marsh.

The four were up to the task with some much needed help from Blake Moreland, who also moved to the back from up front and stayed mostly in the back for much of the second half.

"Wooster forced us to," said Brigham about moving the extra player to the back in Moreland.

Brigham said Wooster put the most offensive pressure on his team that it has seen this year.

"They were giving us a lot of trouble in the back," Brigham said. "It was hold on to a 1-0 lead. That was a playoff-type game."

Carson also dodged a bullet in the second half when the Senators were called for a hands violation in the goal box, giving Wooster a penalty kick. But the Colts missed on the penalty kick just wide.

And other than that mistake, Carson's makeshift defense held its own, continuing the streak in which an opponent hasn't been able to score at CHS this year. And after having that header slip through his hands, Briggs had an otherwise solid game, making six saves to post the shutout.

Nuthall, Brady Roser, Ian Gunn and Cyrill Suter were among others who had shots for Carson.

DOUGLAS 4, DAMONTE RANCH 1

The Tigers (9-8-1, 3-5-1) built a 4-0 lead on their way to the win. Edgar Arceo scored three goals for Douglas to increase his league leading total to 14.

Arceo scored in the first three minutes, then scored on an assist by Andrew Andraski. Keegan Rahe also scored on an assist from Ross Gardner and Arceo scored on an assist from Dylan Colbert.

Corbin Zumpft made three saves and Andraski had one save for Douglas. Brian Randall, Edgar Gonzalez, Carlos Cordova and Morgan Clancy all played well for the Tigers.

CHS JVS 4, WOOSTER 1

Jason Martinez scored twice and Zach Bruce and Luis Camacho scored for Carson (11-0-1, 9-0-1). Camacho, Martinez and Javier Barrios each added an assist.

Goalies Pedro Chavez and David Yanez and Sammy Ayala, Carlos Munoz, Barrios, Guillermo Alonso, Skylar Greenman and Gustavo Gonzalez all played well defensively.
