Emergency crews from Carson City and Douglas County have found nothing in a search of the canyon between Spooner Summit and Clearcreek Road after a report of an aircraft seen flying low and banking hard into a canyon.

The call came in just before 11 a.m. from a man who said he witnessed a small, gray or white plane or glider flying southeast near the Spooner Summit and then "going down in a sharp angle into canyon," according to dispatch reports.

No wreckage was discovered in the nearly three hour search and no gliders or planes were reported missing from the Carson City, Washoe County and Douglas County airports.

A helicopter and Aerosquadron aided in the exhaustive search and also came up empty handed, said Sheriff Ken Furlong.

"We have to commit our resources with the possibility that somebody may be in need of help. And until we are certain (someone is not) we have to continue," Furlong said.
