Galena football rolls past South Tahoe

Jared Faust and Beau Bickel each had huge games for the Galena High football team which put itself square in the Northern 4A playoff race with a 42-21 win against South Tahoe at home on Friday.

The win sets up a showdown at 7:30 p.m. this Friday in which Galena will host Carson High in a game that will have huge playoff implications. Both teams will come into the game at 2-2 in the Sierra League.

Faust rushed for 291 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries and Bickel threw three touchdown passes and rushed for another. The Grizzlies piled up 428 yards of total offense, including 352 on the ground.

Bickel completed a 13-yard touchdown pass and a 12-yard scoring pass to Nick Dufur to give the Grizzlies a 14-7 halftime lead. Faust scored on an 11-yard run and Bickel completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Luke Hess to give the Grizzlies a 28-7 lead.

After the Vikings closed to within 28-21, Bickel scored on a 1-yard run. Austin Bayless then returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown to put the game away and finish the scoring. Dufur was also 6-for-6 on extra points.

Taylor Tatro rushed for 54 yards on eight carries and Danny Blanco gained 20 yards on two carries for Galena. Bickel was 7-of-12 for 76 yards. Dufur caught five passes for 53 yards and Hess caught two passes for 23 yards.

Defensively for Galena, Tony Guidara had two sacks and two tackles for loss and Garrett Shutt intercepted two passes.
