About a thousand Carson City residents took advantage of an invitation to ride for free on the Virginia & Truckee Railroad this month. The demand was so great that the Convention and Visitor's Bureau is making more free tickets available.

The purpose is to give voters a chance to see up close what their tax money has accomplished, before they vote on a ballot question that would provide another $10 million in sales tax revenue for the project.

The tickets are for the 4 p.m. train any day this month, but the bureau is recommending that people ride on a weekday rather than weekends, when the train is sometimes full.

The rides will take people from the depot in Virginia City onto the recently completed V&T Railway track at American Flat. It will stop short of entering Tunnel 2, however.

Carson City residents may pick up a pair of tickets at the visitors center, 1900 S. Carson St., between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
