An April trial date has been set for two Carson City men charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing shots in July at a person who stopped them from vandalizing a mailbox.

Ricardo Llamas, 22, and John Turner, 22, each pleaded not guilty Monday before Judge Todd Russell on charges of felony attempted murder with a deadly weapon, an alternate charge of attempted murder to advance gang activity, and three counts of battery with a deadly weapon.

According to court records, Turner, Llamas and two others were going to graffiti a mailbox at a Woodside Drive apartment complex in July when tenants chased them off.

Allegedly angered that they'd been "disrespected," Turner and Llamas returned to the complex hours later and Turner shot at one of the tenants as he was dumping his trash.

Prosecutors claim that when Turner noticed the victim's father and sister on a nearby stairwell, he aimed toward them as well.

No one was injured in the shooting.

The trial is slated for April 21 to May 1.
