Carson City saw a bump in overnight visitors from 2004 to 2008 who came for reasons including sports events, special events and shows, recreation and family visits, according to a study by a Reno-based company.

InfoSearch International worked with the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau to talk with 437 visitors from June 2007 to June 2008 and found that overnight stays had increased 10 percent in the last four years.

About two-thirds of the visitors stayed overnight, while one-third were day visitors, they study found. Top reasons for visits included sports events, special events and shows, recreation and family visits.

Over half of visitors were from California, according to the study, and about one-quarter were from Nevada.

The average visitor is white and 52-years-old and close to half have a household income of at least $100,000, the study said.

InfoSearch International contacted people after their visits in Carson City to hotels, the visitors bureau and special events.

Candy Duncan, executive director of the visitors bureau, said she was happy to see that people come for anything from soccer games to Nevada Day.

"I think what it' shows us is is that we really have a nice variety of reasons for people to come and visit us," she said.
