A fire early Sunday destroyed a home in Gardnerville, according to Douglas County fire officials.
No one was inside the 4,000-sq.-ft. residence, located in the 1200 block of Kingsbury Grade, when someone in the area noticed the fire and reported it to authorities at around 3 a.m.
Crews from around Douglas " more than three dozen firefighters " responded to the three-alarm fire, according to East Fork Fire Captain Terry Taylor.
The structure and entire contents were destroyed.
"The house survived the Autumn Hills fire, but not this," Taylor said. "They've been left with the clothes on their backs and the cars they were driving."
The fire appears to have originated in the basement and spread upward into the rest of the home, constructed about 30 years ago, but the cause is being investigated, he added.
The people who live there, the Hindelangs, are staying with their relative Rudy Hindelang " a sheriff's deputy in Carson City.
