Nevada Forester named to head regional coalition
Nevada State Forester Pete Anderson has been named co-chairman of the Western Forestry Leadership Coalition.
The group promotes science-based forestry management in conjunction with the Council of Western State Foresters. Anderson also chairs that council.
"The WFLC is a critically important partnership, one that acknowledges our issues across boundaries and landscapes," said Anderson.
He will head the group along with Rick Cables, the U.S. Forest Service Rocky Mountain Regional Forester.
Anderson has an extensive background in conservation, natural resources management and forestry. He has been Nevada State Forester and head of the Nevada Division of Forestry since 2004
Bar approves 300 new lawyers
The Nevada State Bar has approved 300 new lawyers to practice in the state of Nevada, including three from Carson City and two from the Tahoe Basin.
The vast majority of those on the list as passing the bar exam listed Las Vegas as their home.
But David M. Gould, Bo J. Howell and Elizabeth A. Naccarato all listed Carson City as home. In addition to them, Michael D. Bluto is from Stateline at South Shore and Ben H. Roodhouse is from Incline Village.
Others on the list from western Nevada were Robert Erquiaga of Fallon, Tyler B. Altom and Robert B. Shields both of Lovelock.
There are a total of 7,476 active lawyers in Nevada. Of that total, 1,257 are out of state.
State names acting risk manager
Krista Leach is serving as the state's acting Risk Manager in the wake of Sue Dunt's departure from state service.
Leach was deputy risk manager. Her post is being filled by Maureen Martinez, Insurance and Loss Prevention specialist.
No decision has been made as yet on a permanent appointment to the position.
Historic preservation grant applications due Dec. 1
Applications for federal historic preservation grants are due to the state Historic Preservation Office by Dec. 1.
The grants are awarded by the National Park Service for building rehabilitation, historic preservation surveys and projects that promote heritage tourism in the state. The grants are available for both governmental entities and non-profit organizations.
