The owners of a towing company based in Carson City have been arrested on felony theft charges in connection with a number of vehicles they had towed involuntarily then allegedly refused to return them to the owners.
Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto announced the charges against Randall Bondy and Daiana Azpilceuta. They own and operate Cal-Neva Transport and Tow.
The complaints filed Monday in Carson City Justice Court allege the two embezzled the vehicles when they refused to release them to the owners.
The attorney general says one of the victims was Avis Budget Car Rentals. She says Cal-Nevada Transport and Tow towed a car that had been stolen from Avis.
Each of the felony counts are punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
The company's Web site says it was founded in 2004. It says it is one of the firms that provides towing services for the Nevada Highway Patrol and Carson City Sheriff's Office.
