One business fails compliance sting operation

Only one business sold alcohol to a minor during a recent underage alcohol sting conducted by the Carson City Sheriff's Department.

A server at Applebee's was given a $632 ticket after serving alcohol to 20- and 18-year-old girls working as sheriff's department decoys.

In an alcohol check under the supervision of deputies, underage people are hired to go into a restaurant and order a drink. If they are asked for identification, they turn over their actual ID card with their real birth date.

"The (decoys) both sat at the bar, showed their identification, and ordered beers. The lady looked at their IDs and served them beer anyway," said deputy Sal Acosta.

The following businesses did not sell alcohol to the minor decoy:

Carson St.; 7-Eleven, 3838 Highway 50 E.; Gas and Save, 1360 S. Carson Street; AM-PM, 4190 S. Carson Street; Video Centro, 2765 Highway 50 E.; Silver Dollar Casino, 1897 S. Edmonds Dr.; Straw Hat Pizza, 127 Clearview Dr.; Grand Central Pizza, 3965 S. Carson St.; Woody's, 4385 S. Carson St.; Playa Azul, 415 E. William Dr.; D'Vine, 200 Stewart St.; Firkin N Fox, 310 S. Carson St.; 4 Pints Bar, 3198 N Deer Run Rd.; Feisty Goat Bar, 1881 E. Long St.; Decades Bar, 1475 Old Hot Springs Rd.; Bella Fiore Wines, 224 S. Carson St.

The sheriff's office routinely conducts these checks of local businesses to ensure they are not selling alcohol to anyone under the age of 21. Overtime for the operation is paid for by a grant from the Nevada Juvenile Programs Justice Office.
