HONOLULU " A 30-year-old man convicted of killing an Oahu family's 300-pound pet pig has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Joseph Calarruda V was given the maximum despite pleas from his family for leniency for slaughtering "Porky," which once appeared in an episode of the TV series "Lost."

Circuit Judge Richard Pollack called the killing "vicious and callous." He noted Calarruda slaughtered the pig with a knife despite its owners' cries to stop.

Witnesses say the 6-year-old pig was killed after being chased into a garage by Calarruda and his dogs in 2006.

The pig was killed while Calarruda was free on bail on a felony firearms charge. He was later convicted of that crime and sentenced to 10 years in prison. The two sentences will be served consecutively.
