Tonight parents should bundle up their ghosts and goblins for trick-or-treating because the night is expected to be breezy and chilly.
But Saturday's parade day forecast looks a bit worse, according to the National Weather Service.
Meteorologist Jessica Kielhorn said that throughout today there is a 40 percent chance of rain with an afternoon high of about 62 degrees and breezy conditions with southerly wind gusts of 35 mph.
After the sun goes down and the ghouls come out, the temperature is expected to be in the low to mid 50s.
The Nevada Day parade Saturday may find the floats and onlookers standing in the rain with a 50 percent chance of showers. The high is expected to be about 60 degrees and breezy with southerly wind gusts of 25 mph.
Kielhorn said the valley is expected to accumulate a half inch of rain over the two days.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m.
Traffic
Carson Street from Winnie Lane to Fairview Drive will be shut down from 9 a.m. until the parade ends Saturday, said Sheriff Kenny Furlong.
Motorists should also expect a portion of Carson Street in front of the Carson Mall to be shut down for the balloon ascension at 7 a.m.
The road will reopen after the parade, but motorists are warned to be alert for pedestrians. Sheriff's Department auxiliary units will be working at intersections to aid pedestrians across the street.
There will be no construction work on Fifth Street or Highway 50 East on Saturday, but detours and construction cones will remain in place, said Nevada Department of Transportation Spokesman Scott Magruder.
Construction work on Fairview Drive and any other city maintained streets will also be halted Saturday, said Patrick Pittenger, city transportation manager. Fairview Drive, which had eastbound lanes closed for months, is now reopened in both directions.
Public Transportation
Because of the parade road closure, Carson City's bus service has altered its routes.
According to Jump Around Carson, Route 1 will not service stops at Winnie Lane between Roop and North Carson Street. The stop in front of Safeway will also not be serviced. The route will be detoured to Lone Mountain Drive, Sage Street and on to Hot Springs Road.
Route 3 bus will not service any stops on West Washington, Division and Tenth streets and any stops on Curry Street between Tenth and Fifth streets. Service on this route will continue on the regular route from Stewart Street south.
Routes 2 and 3 will not be affected.
