Republican presidential candidate John McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin plan to campaign in Nevada on Monday in one last attempt to win the western battleground state on the eve of the election.
McCain plans a rally in Las Vegas while Palin has scheduled appearances in Reno and Elko. Details have not been released.
It will mark the first time either of the Republicans have been in Elko since McCain was there in early 2007 as part of a swing kicking off his primary bid.
Vice President Dick Cheney was in Nevada on the eve of the last presidential election, with stops in Sparks and Henderson.
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama plans a rally in Henderson on Saturday.
An Associated Press-GfK poll released on Wednesday showed Obama opening up a decisive lead in Nevada, 52 percent to 40 percent for McCain.
Locally, former presidential candidate Mitt Romney, actor Jon Voight and the parents and in-laws of Gov. Sarah Palin will be campaigning today in the Carson City area.
Romney and Voight are scheduled to visit the Douglas County Republican headquarters in Gardnerville at 5 p.m. today, and then stop by the Carson City GOP offices at 6 p.m.
Chuck and Sally Heath and Jim and Faye Palin will visit the Douglas County headquarters at 6:15 p.m.
The Douglas County headquarters are located at 1516 Highway 395, Suite G in Gardnerville. The Carson City GOP office is at 1933 California St., one-half block south of Fairview.
