A summit on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome will be held in Carson City on Friday at the Gold Dust West in Carson City.
The event, the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders/Healthy Babies & Children Summit, is being held by the Nevada State Health Division Perinatal Substance Abuse Prevention Program, Nevada Public Health Foundation, and the March of Dimes Nevada Chapter.
Every year about 40,000 babies are born with symptoms of prenatal alcohol exposure. Nevada has one of the nation's highest alcoholism rates and one of the highest Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) rates.
The event will feature experts from around the country. Approximately 175 healthcare professionals and caregivers have registered for the event.
