Oliver C. Kinney, 89, passed away peacefully on Sept. 15, 2008. Born on Feb. 4,1919, he was raised on a ranch with his three brothers in the tiny town of Olene, Ore.
He is survived by his daughter Monika Kinney Mueller of Los Angeles, Calif.; grandson Max Mueller Fitton of Los Angeles Calif.; cousin Donna Abner of Reno; cousin Rowe F. Kinney Jr. of Bonanza, Ore., cousin Rosemary Fox of Klamth Falls, Ore.; cousin June Lawson of Dallas, Ore.; nephew Davis Kinney of Washington D.C.; nephew Paul Kinney of Central Point, Ore.; and niece Susan Kinney Cochrane of Boston, Mass.
Oliver is preceded in death by his parents Oliver Kinney and Nell Williams Kinney; brother George Kinney; brother Leonard Kinney; and nephew George Kinney.
Oliver served in three wars World War I, The Korean War, and Vietnam. He was inducted in the Federal Military Service in September 1940 with the Oregon National Guard. He was discharged in 1945 from the Military Air Transport Command as a First Lieutenant. He ranched with his father at Spraug River in Oregon until being recalled to the Air Force in 195 1 to serve in Korea and Vietnam. Oliver retired from the Air Force in 1972 as a Colonel.
After a couple months of restless retirement he accepted a job as assistant to Senator Paul Laxalt, in his capacity, as General Chairman of the Republican Party. This was a happy time for Oliver as he was passionate about politics, being a Republican, and Washington D.C. Oliver enjoyed traveling the globe, playing golf, funny anecdotes, and skiing. He loved his friends and family, and was always quick to share a helping hand.
