Travis Feiner went 4-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI for the Western Nevada College baseball team as the Wildcats completed a sweep of a doubleheader against Modesto Junior Collge on Friday at John L. Harvey Field.
Behind Feiner the Wildcats rolled to a 12-4 over Modesto in the seven-inning nightcap after winning the nine-inning opener 10-1.
Kyle DiMartino finished up the opener, pitching a scoreless ninth. He turned right around and started the nightcap and retired the side in order in the first inning, striking out two. Feiner then hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to give WNC a 2-0 lead.
Jeremy Gendlek pitched two scorless innings for WNC and Eric Maupin allowed a run in the fourth without giving up a hit on the strength of a hit batsman and wild pitch. Wil Schumacher allowed a home run while striking out one in the fifth as Modesto closed to within 3-2.
But Feiner answered with a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth and then Mike Long tripled. Kevin Meyers then hit an RBI single and Andrew Garcia hit an RBI double to give WNC a 5-2 lead.
The Wildcats broke th egame oen in the sixth. Maupin singled and Feiner followed with a two-run double. Long hit an RBI sacrifice fly, his second of the game, Meyers hit an RBI double and Trevor Goff added a two-run single to make it 12-3.
WNC's Kevin Rogers finished up on the mound, allowing two runs while striking out three over two innings. Meyers and Goff each had two hits and Lance Ray doubled.
In the opener, Kyle Starratt started and was dominant as he retired all six batters he faced, striking out two. Cavin Hill didn't allow a hit while allowing one unearned run over two innings. Logan Odom also retired all six batters he faced, striking out two.
Modesto didn't pick up its first hit until Javy Perez allowed a leadoff single to begin the seventh. Perez went on to pitch two scoreless innings and allow both of the hits given up by the WNC pitching staff.
The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the first. After Daniel Zylstra doubled, Ray followed with an RBI single. WNC added two more runs n the second with Jay Skilton hitting an RBI single to make it 3-0.
In the sixth, Goff hit a two-run double and Feiner had an RBI double to make it 6-1. Jerome Pena belted an RBI double to make it 7-1 in the seventh. WNC added three unearned runs in the eighth.
Ray had three hits, including a double, and two stolen bases, Stiles had three hits, including a double and Brett Moravec and Goff each added two hits.
WNC will next play at 2:30 p.m. this Friday at John L. Harvey Field against Feather River Community College.
