A mercury spill in a Carson High School storage closet Friday shut down one classroom and a 30-foot upstairs hallway on the west side of the school.

Mike Mitchell, director of operations for the Carson City School District, said two staff members were exposed to the substance but no students were exposed.

The storage room was blocked off as well as a neighboring anatomy classroom, but school remained in session.

"It's business as usual," Mitchell said. "The school is not being evacuated."
