The Ray Daniels to Kyle Brush combination and an onside kick led to a comeback win for the Damonte Ranch High football team at Galena on Friday.
The Grizzlies appeared to be in control when they led 20-7, but the Mustangs came back to deliver a heartbreaking loss to Galena as Damonte went on to win 21-20. The game was a key opening Sierra League showdown for both clubs and could already go a long way to determine which team makes the Northern 4A playoffs.
Galena went to its bag of tricks when running back threw a long pass to Jared Faust to set up Faust's touchdown run to give the Grizzlies a 20-7 lead.
But the Damonte fought back behind the passing combination of Daniels and Brush, which set up a Daniels' quarterback sneak for a score to make it 20-14. Damonte then recovered an onside kick.
The Mustangs proceeded down the field behind the passing combination of Daniels and Brush and the two connected for the winning score.
Galena will next play at Douglas at 7 p.m. this Friday.
