The Carson High school year is off to a great start! We have a new principal, Mr. Ron Beck, who can be seen every morning greeting students in the lobby and making the rounds in the hallways.
Although this is his first year at Carson High, Mr. Beck stated at an address to the student body the first day of classes that this was his "dream job" and that he knew Carson High School was the "best school in the state." Well, Mr. Beck, we think so too!
Carson High School hosted its first speech and debate tournament Friday and Saturday. Events included United States extemporaneous speaking, expository speaking, duo interpretation, dramatic interpretation, storytelling, Lincoln-Douglas debate, public Forum debate, policy debate, and student congress. There were about 15 schools and 150 students at CHS for the tournament.
The next tournament will be Oct. 10 and 11 at Elko high School followed by a multi-state invitational at Bishop Manogue over Nevada Day weekend.
Homecoming Week is Oct. 13-18. The theme is "Around the World," where all the activities taking place will be themed with countries around the world and traveling reality shows, like "Amazing Race" and "Survivor."
We are still in the process of finalizing dress up days and how lunchtime activities will go, but tentative dates are as follows: Monday is Lip Sync at 6 p.m. in the big gym. The audition days will be Oct. 6 and 7, after school in the upstairs cafeteria.
Tuesday is volleyball, movie night and T-shirt making. Start off at the volleyball game at 6 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., we will provide the materials for kids to bring their own shirts to decorate. At 7 p.m. (or after the game), the movie "Remember the Titans" will begin.
Wednesday is "Murder in The Knife Room," a CHS Drama Production at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center. The first 200 students to get in will receive a free piece of CHS gear.
Thursday will be the parade and bonfire. We are looking for a trailer or two for floats. If you have one you'd be willing to lend, please contact Jennifer Tartan at CHS, 283-1747.
