After a solid showing at the Fallon Invitational last weekend, Carson High's track teams will participate in the Reed Rotary Invitational with renewed confidence.
Action gets under way today at 3. The bulk of the action takes place on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
Coach Robert Maw is placing a lot of emphasis on the Senators' relay teams " the 1600 and 3200 " despite the fact that Eric Robertson and Mark Sinnott will miss the meet because of ACT testing.
Rob Barlow, David McMasters, Nick Schlager and Logan Phillippi will run the 3200 relay. Ean Witter, Barlow, Phillippi and McMasters will run th 1600.
Richard Shroy, who was eighth in the 3,000-meter race at the Stanford Invitational last Friday, is expected to get a tough test from Galena's Bryan Tibaduiza and Sierra Lutheran's Clay Meddles, who transferred from Smith Valley.
"He'll (Shroy) run the 1600, too," Maw said. "He's better in the 3200."
Meddles beat Shroy twice last week in Fallon.
Maw is looking to pick up points in the long jump and triple jump with Luke Carter and Evan Pearson.
"Luke is jumping over 20 feet," Maw said. "I'd like to get him in the high 20s. If he hits 21 feet it would be awesome. Evan won the triple jump last year. We need o get him over 42 feet."
Maw welcomes back Brandon Briggs for the sprints.
Briggs missed competition last weekend because he was at a soccer tournament. Maw said Briggs is the fastest runner on the team.
The girls will be hampered by the loss of Emily Field, who also is testing this weekend. She would have been a big point getter in the 200 and the relay events.
Maw is making one change. Krista Baumgartner will run the 400 on the distance medley relay squad. She'll run with Amanda Gordon and Erica Sosa.
